What Happened to Six-Sigma?

I am quite familiar with the early history since I worked at AlliedSignal when Larry Bossidy was Chairman and CEO who passionately implemented the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) across the entire company.  Each and every employee (all 70,000) received 40-hours of training at a significant cost.  Given the success of the program in reducing cost and improving efficiencies, he then pitched the benefits to Jack Welch at GE and the rest is history.

I can also attest to the point made in the article that the implementation is heavily focused on cost reduction and how such a focus severely hampers innovation and strategic growth.
